Isolation continues!

I am not doing as well managing work and home this week, and the kitchen is showing the impact, unfortunately! But you know, it's ok! The Peanuts are doing very well and being super independent and keeping themselves happy!

We got a new kitten, and integrating the new kitten has been fun. Our big fat male cat is a bit rough with her, but the ASPCA says, I think, that this is normal play.

Our old tiny female cat is not involved in any kitten-ing around the place.

I really don't mind this working from home, have I mentioned that?

Test results

So the Peanuts and I are negative as regards the pandemic, so good, we didn't spread it, but bad, because now we have to self-isolate for another 2 weeks starting at the end of the Project Manager's self-isolation period, because she was positive.

She's under a lot of pressure to get tested again because we think it was a false positive. But does it matter? Not really.

So we read, and we do crafts, and I work from home.

I was very ... ill... possibly in my brain... last week and could not get anything done, and had this ongoing every day headache that I couldn't assign a cause to, nor avoid.

But yesterday morning it was gone! and I was back to my normal self. I think it was the stress of the self-isolation period making itself known in a quiet way.

So there's this pandemic going on, see...

And the Project Manager has caught "the 'rona" and is self-isolating. From everyone.

The Peanuts and I are also self-isolating from her, and we have a test booked for Saturday morning to see if we are also 'rona-positive.

We got a new kitten, who is also self-isolating from the cats, so the PM and the Kitten are in the spare room together, hunkered down. I'm a little worried because she's been in there with the lights off, but maybe that's how she prefers it?

I shall monitor this, and try to keep the wheels on for the fortnight or so that this will last. TWO WEEKS, possibly. And, if the Peanuts test negative, then another week after that because they have to self-isolate until the Health Experts are sure that they didn't catch the 'rona from the PM.

Rereading old blog posts

Doesn't suck, and reminds me that my constant foils are my grumpiness and fatigue.

Well.

I mean, I don't seem to learn anything, but I don't get worse, either

Shifting time...

ok, so June is wrapping up, and soon day camps will start again (Assuming the Government of Prairie Province doesn't close everything again because our illness rates have jumped again...)

So I will get some weeks that are straightup weeks of work with no chilluns to distract me, and some of that is going to be amazing for work, and some of it is going to be amazing for projects around the house.

I've talked about this a little bit in the past, but here's some hard answers on some things:

1) I want to keep working from home as much as possible. 

• I'm _productive_ at home and I have data to prove it
• Our meetings are shorter
• My breaks are productive because I can get things done
• My day is 2 hours longer because I don't need to commute.

OK, so if the Peanuts go back to school and bus drop off continues at their grandparents, it makes sense for me to do all my mornings at home, and then a quick drop in to the office at the end of the day, because it's about a 5 minute train ride from grandparents' house to check in on mail, etc.

That could work, and I'd cross over with a lot of people.

It would mean continuing to meet by Google meets with a lot of people, but we're getting quite good at that.

Eternal Groundhog Day of the Coronavirus

Today I get to go and do errands!

I'm very excited!

But The Project Manager is also doing errands, so there's a tension there over who stays home with the Peanuts

I also have 1,000,000 little tiny meetings all day, so it's a bit touch and go in terms of supporting the children, AND... it's rained in Prairie Metropolis for about three days straight and so we're all feeling a mite housebound.

Oh and I also need to Glowforge them a paint rack for their new craft area.

I guess I'll tidy upstairs where the Peanuts will need to be doing homework as a way to support them. I got so much done yesterday that I'm genuinely at a bit of a loose end today

Summer of 2020

I thought it would go without saying, but summer 2020 is _weird_

My employer, Prairie University, has been the victim of the largest funding cut ever given to a University, and that included an in-year funding cut, so a cut to immediate budgets.

My province is in the grip of an ideological battle between regressive austerity conservatism, and the rest of the universe, including reality and science

My country is in the grips of the Covid-19 outbreak

Our neighbours to the south have had the worst civil unrest since the 60s.

AMAZING.

Also terrifying.
